Kareem Abdul-Jabber began his basketball career in high school, setting the record for 2,067 total points at New York City high school. In college, he played for UCLA and was named Player of the Year in 1967 and ?69, was three-time First Team All American from ?67 to ?69, played on three NCAA basketball champion teams in ?67, ?68, and ?69, and was honored as the Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Tournament in those same years.

In 1968, the ?Game of the Century? was coined to the game that ended the Bruins? 47-game winning streak; Houston beat UCLA 71-69. However, the rematch between the two teams in the NCAA Tournament would see UCLA win against Houston 101-69 and go on to win the national championship.

After college, Abdul would be offered $1 million to play for the Harlem Globetrotters, but he would decline and sign with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969. In 1974 he was requested to trade either to New York or Los Angles due to the Midwest not fitting his cultural status, and eventually signed with the Lakers in 1975. After 20 seasons, in 1989 Kareem announced his retirement and concluded his career with a retirement tour. At the time, Abdul held the most games played record by a single player in the NBA as well as the all-time record for most points, most field goals, and most minutes at 38,387, 15,837, and 57,446 respectively.

Abdul totaled a league-record of six MVP awards and had acquired six championship rings, two Finals MVP awards, fifteen NBA First or Second Teams, the record of nineteen NBA All-Star call-ups of an average of 24.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 blocks per game. In 2006 he was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
