2016 in Review
As 2016 comes to a close, we here at Sports Collectibles would like to take a look back at a truly historic sports year. Peyton Manning led the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl and ended his legendary NFL career on top, LeBron James brought an NBA Championship to his native Cleveland, the Alabama Crimson Tide won their 16th National Championship, but the biggest story was when the Chicago Cubs ‘reversed the curse,’ ‘got the billy goat off their back,’ and won the World Series for the first time since 1908!
Chicago Cubs fans it’s never too late to add an autographed baseball to your sports memorabilia collectors. Whether it’s a Joe Maddon, David Ross, Javy Baez, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler, Ben Zobrist, Aroldis Chapman, or Addison Russell signed baseball, it will display perfectly and withstand the test of time as the 2016 Chicago Cubs have made history on the North Side. Cubs fans are still celebrating, and autographed Chicago Cubs collectibles are as hot as ever for collectors.
In basketball, the Golden State Warriors attempt to repeat as NBA champions was stopped by the relentless Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Stephen Curry and the Warriors were upset in the Finals as LeBron brought a title back home to Cleveland. March Madness was in full effect as the Villanova Wildcats men’s team won the NCAA Tournament in dramatic fashion with a buzzer-beater over the North Carolina Tar Heels.
It’s not often that a superstar NFL quarterback can ride off into the sunset a Super Bowl champion, but Peyton Manning did just that as the Denver Broncos dominated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Peyton Manning is a first-ballot Hall of Famer after his career with the Indianapolis Colts and Broncos. Von Miller was the Super Bowl MVP after creating havoc for 2016 NFL MVP Cam Newton and the Panthers. Neither team will appear in this season’s NFL playoffs, but look out for the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, and Green Bay Packers as we move to 2017.
The Alabama Crimson Tide hoisted their 16th NCAA Championship by beating Clemson in the College Football Playoff Championship behind head coach Nick Saban and Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry. Alabama sent a group of stars to the NFL, but no school produced more NFL talent and future stars than the Ohio State Buckeyes. Running back Ezekiel Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Dallas Cowboys and is in the running for not only Rookie of the Year, but NFL MVP. Joey Bosa is off to a promising start for the San Diego Chargers, wide receiver Michael Thomas is a star in the making for the New Orleans Saints, and Eli Apple, Cardale Jones, Darron Lee, and others are ready to make a name for themselves in the pros. Alabama and Ohio State could face off in this year’s National Championship!
Sports fans had a lot to cheer about in 2016 and sports memorabilia collectors can find all your favorite teams and players autographed items at Sports Collectibles. Let’s see what 2017 has in store for us!
